India Post Drone Delivery Proposal 2025: Criteria & Routes

Directorate has proposed transmission of Bags between Account Office and Branch Post Office (BO) through Drone.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle or Drone is a flying robot that can be remotely controlled or fly autonomously using software –controlled flight plans embedded in its systems. Drones are increasingly being integrated into Postal Services by different Postal or other operators in Courier Express Parcel (CEP) industry for delivery of articles especially delivery in remote, mountainous rugged terrain or other areas that are difficult to reach by road.

Department of Posts has also decided to explore the use of drone technology for transmission of bags in remote and mountainous regopms. Accordingly, a proof of concept (POC) for transmission of bags through Drone between the identified Account office (PO) and Branch Post office (BO) was carried out in Himachal Pradesh and North Eastern Circle.

It is proposed to float a tender for conveyance of BO bags through drones on the selected routes as identified by the Circles. Accordingly, Regions are requested to select the routes for transmission of BO bags between Account office (PO) and Branch Post office (BO) through drone. Following criteria may be kept in view while selecting routes from transmission of BO bags through drone:

i. Post offices which has been mapped with a minimum of 10 Branch Post offices,

ii. Branch Post offices in remote, mountainous and difficult areas may be prioritized. However, other routes may also be selected.

iii. Only those BOs may be selected which are located at a minimum distance of at least 25 km from Account office,

iv. Areas with army or other sensitive installations to be avoided.

Regions are requested to select the routes for conveyance of BO bags between Account office (PO) and Branch Post office (BO) through drones as per the criteria.

Recommendations of the Regions in the matter may be forwarded to CO by 10th December, 2025.
