Tamil Nadu Postal Circle Sports Quota Recruitment 2026

Memo No. REP/2-SQ/2023/ Vol I dated at Chennai 600 002 the 13.01.2026.

In pursuance of Postal Directorate's notice / letter No.W-17/55/2022-SPN-I dated 08.11.2023 and 10.01.2024 regarding recruitment of Meritorious Sports persons in the Department of Posts in the cadres of Postal Assistant / Sorting Assistant, Postman, Mail Guard and Multitasking Staff, approval of the Chief Postmaster General, Tamil Nadu Circle, Chennai is hereby conveyed for the release of Second Provisional selected list in r/o Tamilnadu Circle against the vacancies upto 5% by Direct Recruitment reserved for meritorious sports persons under Sports Quota. This list is released in continuation of this office memo of even no dated 22.08.2025. Further, the Competent Authority has also approved Divisional / Unit allotment of the following candidates. It is hereby intimated that provisional appointment orders may be issued to the allotted candidates on completion of the extant pre-appointment formalities.

2. Method of Selection: Selection of meritorious sports persons is as per Postal Directorate notification No. W-17/55/2022-SPN-1 dated 07.2.2023, on the basis of online notification vide no. W-17/55/2022-SPN-1 dated 08-11-2023 issued by the Department, eligibility criteria for educational and sports qualifications based on the instructions contained in the Department of Personnel & Training OM no.14015/1/76-ESTT.(D) dated 04-08-1980 and consolidated instructions issued by DOPT OM No.14034/01/2013-Estt.(D) dated 03.10.2013 and OM No. DOPT-1711450898768 dated 04.03.2024 and as amended from time to time. First Preference has been accorded to candidates who have represented the country in an INTERNATIONAL competition with the clearance of Department of Youth affairs and Sports and on the basis of verified FORM-1.

3. The Sports Recruitment Online Portal has shortlisted the meritorious sports persons based on the online applications uploaded by the candidates for Document verification to the extent vacancies notified. Mere short listing of candidates for preliminary document verification is NOT treated as offer of provisional appointment. The candidates have been shortlisted to the notified vacancies on the basis of sports qualification and educational qualifications provided by the candidates while submitting their online applications.

4. This second list of provisionally selected candidates on the basis of verification of Form-I and educational qualification (except computer qualification) uploaded by the candidates online for provisional appointment to the cadre of Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant/Postman and MTS against Sports Quota recruitment, with Division / Unit allotment, approved by the Competent Authority is as per Para (2) above.

5.The provisionally selected candidates in this second list are allotted to the Divisions / Units based on the preference of Circle opted by the candidates while submitting their applications and based on the availability of vacancies in the Divisions / Units.

6.Selection of the candidates has been made based on educational and sports qualification, based on the instructions contained in the Department of Personnel & Training OM No. 14015/1/76-ESTT.(D) dated 04-08-1980 and consolidated instructions issued by DOPT OM No. 14034/01/2013-Estt.(D) dated 03-10-2013 and OM No. DOPT-1711450898768 dated 04.03.2024 and as amended from time to time and as per the relevant conditions prescribed by the Department from time to time.

7.The selection is also subject to any change in merit list of the selected candidate due to any unforeseen reason in accordance with the extant rules on the subject. The present result is further subject to correction of clerical mistake if any. The candidature of selected candidate is liable to be cancelled if later on it is found that the false information has been given by the candidate or the candidate was not eligible due to any criminal case against him / her otherwise. The selection has been recommended on the basis of information furnished by the candidate at the time online application. In case, at any time, it is detected that the candidate(s) so selected had applied with false declaration or data, his/her selection will be cancelled without any notice by the Appointing Authority or any other Competent Authority. For such an order this will be the notice issued in advance. No separate notice will be issued whenever modification/ revision/ deletion/cancellations are ordered.

8.The selection of candidates is purely provisional subject to fulfilment of required conditions of relevant recruitment rules and verification of genuineness of various mandatory certificates produced by the candidates from the issuing authorities and Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

9. The candidates have to satisfy and fulfil the eligibility conditions prescribed by the Department for respective cadres.

10. The person selected to the post of Postman shall acquire a driving license to drive two-wheeler or three-wheeler or light motor vehicle within a period of two years from the date of his appointment. However, persons with disability shall be exempted from the requirement of driving license.

11. A candidate selected for Postman not having valid driving license at the time of appointment shall not earn periodical increment in pay till production of such license or for a period of five years from the date of appointment whichever is earlier and after production of such license or expiry of such five years period, pay shall be restored prospectively to the level pay would have reached had the periodical increment in pay was not withheld and no arrears of pay shall be paid for the intervening period.

12. A candidate selected for Postman should have a knowledge of Local Language i.e. Tamil in respect of Tamilnadu State and Puducherry (excluding Mahe and Yenam districts). The candidate selected in the cadre of PM should have passed a paper of local language at least up to 10th standard.

13. A person not possessing the knowledge of local language of the Postal Circle or Division shall also be eligible for appointment. However, such person after appointment shall pass local language test to be conducted in the manner as may be decided by the Postal Circle concerned and passing of such local language test shall be a precondition for completion of probation.

14. The respective Divisional / Unit Head should take further action to issue offer of provisional appointment orders by observing usual formalities to be done as per the Directorate instructions from time to time. Applications along with the verified copies of the certificates and Form-I in respect of the provisionally selected candidates are enclosed for taking further necessary action at your end.

15. The following condition to be incorporated in the provisional appointment order, "In case, at any time, it is detected that the candidate(s) so selected had applied in online mode with false declaration or data, his/her selection will be cancelled without any notice by the appointing authority or any other competent authority. For such an order this will be the notice issued in advance. No separate notice will be issued whenever modification/revision/deletion/cancellations are ordered."

16. As per the instruction of DoPT OM No.18011/2(s)/2016-Estt (B) (i) dated 29.06.2016 and OM No. 36011/1/2012-Estt. (Res) dated 14.03.2016, immediate action has to be taken for provisional appointment of candidates allotted to divisions/units. The call letter / offer of provisional appointment has to be issued to the selected candidates by Registered Post with acknowledgment due and to email id of the candidates, if available, without fail. If the letters are returned undelivered, the letter along with the envelopes containing remarks made by the postal authorities should be retained for record. After following the prescribed procedure, the offer of provisional appointment has to be cancelled by the appointing authority and cancellation order has to be issued and full facts of the case may be intimated to Circle Office. The application of such candidates should be returned to Circle Office along with the copy of offer of provisional appointment, subsequent reminder and memo of cancellation of candidature, only if the second letter / e-mail is also undelivered/unanswered.

17. While issuing provisional offer of appointment, the candidate may be asked to produce the originals of educational certificates and other documents such as caste certificate, certificate of date of birth etc. on the day of reporting/joining.

18. It is directed that the following Original documents / particulars of the candidate(s) may be checked thoroughly at the time of issue of provisional appointment order / joining, with reference to the eligibility conditions notified vide Directorate Memo W-17/55/2022-SPN-I dated 08.11.2023.
  1. Certificate regarding Date of Birth
  2. Certificate relating to Educational qualification and Computer Knowledge (Para 5 of the notification may be referred to).
  3. SC/ST/OBC/EWS certificates, if any, issued by the competent authority in prescribed format approved by the Government of India
  4. In respect of OBC candidate guidelines regarding creamy layer status be strictly followed.
  5. Age relaxation for various categories under Sports Quota recruitment, as mentioned below, may be allowed on production of necessary certificates. (Age relaxation for SC/ST/PWH - Ten years, UR/OBC - five years) as per notification
  6. Valid Photo ID Proof
  7. Photograph, Signature in the applications need to be verified with those the candidate(s) may actually submit at the time of joining the service
19. In addition, pre-appointment formalities such as Character and Antecedent Verification & Medical Examination etc. of the candidate(s) may also be completed as per the extant Rules and Regulations of the Government. The appointment shall not be kept on hold on the ground that any such document appears to be suspicious. The offer of provisional appointment order shall clearly specify that, if any information or document submitted by the candidate is found to be incorrect at a later stage, which would have rendered him/her ineligible for appointment under Sports Quota recruitment, he/she shall be terminated from the service without notice.

20. All the candidates allotted to Postal Assistant / Sorting Assistant / Postman / MTS cadre under Sports Quota have been selected based on the Form-I certificate (representing for Country in an International Competition) submitted by the candidates through online applications. Form-I certificate uploaded by the candidate have already been verified from the prescribed authority. The Essential Educational qualification / Certificates are also verified from the prescribed authority.

21. The genuineness of the certificates/documents supporting the eligibility of the candidates, all conditions prescribed in the notification issued vide no. W-17/55/2022-SPN-I dated 08-11-2023 and instructions issued by the Department have been checked by the Recruiting Authority excluding the Caste Certificate. Same may be got verified through Issuing Authority in due course.

22. The selection of candidates is based on the following terms and conditions:
  1. The candidature of all candidates is provisional and selection is subject to fulfilment of all conditions prescribed above.
  2. The DOPT OM No. 18011/2(s)/2016-Estt. (B)(i) dated 29.06.2016 which inter alia provides that the offer of appointment need not be withheld pending verification of character and antecedents.
  3. As per the DOPT instructions vide letter No. 36011/1/2012-Estt.(Res) dated 14.03.2016, where a selected candidate belongs to SC/ST/OBC category, is unable to produce a SC/ST/OBC certificate from any of the prescribed authorities, he/she may be appointed provisionally on the basis of whatever prima-facie proof he/she is able to produce in support of his/her claim, subject to his/her furnishing the prescribed certificate within a reasonable time.
  4. The merit list of the candidates is provisional and subject to completion of formalities like verification of all records, Medical examination from Competent Medical Officer and other verifications prescribed in the rules.
  5. If it is later found that any of these candidates was not eligible for recruitment under Sports Quota under the rules or instructions on the subject or for other reasons or in case any mistake is later found with regard to announcement of the results of any candidate for any reason whatsoever, his/her name will be deleted from the list of successful candidates, as the case may be. The result is also subject to any change in the merit list of selected candidates for any reason in accordance with the existing rules and instructions on the subject.
  6. As per Directorate's letter No. 1-12/98/WL/Sports dated 10th March 1999 para no. 3(B), Sub Para 2 (iii), the recruited Sportspersons should be adjusted against the category (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/UR) to which he / she belongs.
  7. The candidates have to satisfy and fulfil the eligibility conditions prescribed by the Department for respective cadres.
  8. The Selected candidates shall be liable to serve anywhere in India as and when required at the sole discretion of the Appointing Authority.
  9. Candidates furnishing false information /suppressing facts will be disqualified and shall be liable for debarment and legal / criminal action. Candidates who attempt fraud / impersonation shall be liable to be debarred from future recruitment process conducted by the Department of Posts.
  10. The selected candidates after appointment shall be on probation for a period of not less than two (2) years. Confirmation after successful completion of probation shall be governed by prevailing rules/regulations/instructions of the Government of India.
23. In case of any doubt or suspicion as regards to the eligibility or otherwise in respect of any of the recommended candidate, the Division/Unit may write to Recruitment & Training Section, Circle Office (through concerned Region) even after his/her appointment giving full details for taking further necessary action.

24. No correspondence will be entertained by this office in respect of rejected candidates. No individual letters will be sent to these candidates regarding rejection since this memo is being uploaded in the website (www.indiapost.gov.in).

25. Further Supplementary list will be published in respect of the candidates for whom the verification of requisite certificates from issuing authorities / clarification from Postal Directorate / Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports in India are pending. Any vacancy remaining unfilled including with-held cases, due to non-reporting of candidates or documents not found correct or for any other reason, shall be added to the overall vacancy of next vacancy year to carry out recruitment as per the provisions of the Recruitment Rules of the respective Cadre.

26. The seniority may be fixed in the respective Divisions/units according to existing rules.
