AD Migration Short Note

Kindly ensure that Antivirus installation and Virus definition updation status(If Not Updated virus definition kindly update the same as per instruction available in Annexures).

• Check minimum software and hardware requirements. 
• Prerequisites for the client machines. 
• Adding DNS entries in the client machine.
• Join the machines into the new domain.

Procedure to Join AD Domain

Step 1 : Enable / Disable user Account

• Enable Administrator Account, set password with Password complexity.
• Disable other accounts in local machine other than administrator Account.

Right Click on Computer /My computer -> Click on Manage -> Expand Local Users & Groups -> Click on Users -> Check Administrator Account (Built in account) -> Status should be Enabled& set the password, if not set.

Step 2 : Naming Convention

Change the computer name with prescribed format 

• The Length of the hostname should not exceed 13 characters,
• WEGCode is unique code for each DoP office available in common template
• DT/LT/SR -- DT for Desktop, LT for Laptop and SR for Server.
• NNN – is Running number from 001 to 999 within each office which system admin is required to assign to each system within the office.

After Rename the Computer Restart then proceed.

Step 3 : Connectivity and IP Address

• Check whether the Sify Network connectivity working properly and ensure that given IP address is correct.

Step 4 : Add DNS Server Details

• Add DNS Server IP as India Post Server IP which is given by CEPT at the time of AD Migration.
• Check the DNS Connectivity using > Run > CMD > Enter

ping   -t   > Enter

 Step 5 : Join India Post Domain

My Computer > Properties > click on Change > Enter Domain Name as Indiapost.gov.in

• On Successful authentication, you will receive a welcome message. Click OK to continue. If you receive an error, verify that you have entered the correct domain, user name, and password.
• Click OK in the System Properties dialog to continue.
• You will be prompted to restart your computer. Click yes to restart the computer. PC must be restarted in order to complete the process of domain joining.
• Post restart, procedure to join Domain is complete. Users can carry out their normal operations using existing local user profile.
