Subject: Guidelines for Booking and Handling Parcels Containing Liquids
Key Points:
Packaging Guidelines: Specific instructions are provided for parcels containing liquids or substances that liquefy easily. Liquids must be sent in a double receptacle:
- The primary receptacle (e.g., a bottle) must be placed inside a secondary container (e.g., a metal, strong wooden, or corrugated box).
- The space between the two must be filled with soft, absorbent material (e.g., sawdust, bran) to contain any potential leakage.
- Successful Implementation: Booking of liquid-containing parcels for two companies—M/s Digi Grover Pvt Ltd and M/s Harrison Agro—has successfully commenced from the BPC Ch. Sambhajinagar Head Post Office since April 15, 2025.
- The liquids are non-hazardous and non-toxic, intended for agricultural use to deter animals.
This initiative has resulted in significant business:
- Digi Grover: 7,960 parcels, revenue of ₹10,74,445
- Harrison Agro: 1,382 parcels, revenue of ₹1,04,049
Specific Packing Method: The successful method involves:
- Wrapping bottles in poly wrap.
- Placing them in corrugated boxes cushioned with wooden powder or other absorbent materials.
- A sample box and a packaging demonstration video are provided for reference.
Dissemination and Instructions:
- The guidelines are to be shared with all booking offices, BNPLs, and BPCs.
- Offices must ensure parcels are packed correctly to enable safe transit and tap into this business segment.
- The initiative proves that liquids can be safely transmitted if packed properly.
- Future Collaboration: The Parcel Directorate is entering an agreement with IIP Mumbai for expert advice on packaging liquids for safe air transmission.
- Sharing Best Practices: Other Circles/Regions are encouraged to share their successful initiatives for wider learning and improvement of parcel services nationwide.
- In essence, this document is a circular promoting the safe and successful handling of liquid parcels by sharing proven packaging methods and encouraging nationwide adoption to boost business.
