Clarification regarding CEA claim in respect of Government servants' children admitted in Anganawadis

Question	Answer
Will a child studying in an Anganwadi get CEA?	Generally, CEA is available only for a child studying in a 'recognized school / institution'.
Is an Anganwadi a recognized institution?	Most Anganwadis are not recognized as 'educational institutions'. They function primarily as nutrition and childcare centers. Therefore, generally CEA is NOT admissible.
When can CEA be admissible for an Anganwadi?	CEA can be admissible only if a particular Anganwadi has been officially recognized as an educational institution by the Central / State Government. If no such recognition exists, CEA is not admissible.

Sir,

The undersigned is directed to refer to your letter no.CEA/GNL/11/2023 dated 15.05.2024 on the above subject. On referring the matter, DoPT has clarified the issue as under:

"The CEA reimbursement under the Scheme may be allowed for the children studying in a recognized school institution. Recognized school/institution means a Government school or any education institution whether in receipt of Govt. aid or not, recognized by the Central or State Government or Union Territory Administration or by University or a recognized educational authority having jurisdiction over the area where the institution/school is situated."

The Circle is requested to decide the matter in accordance with the instructions quoted above.

This issues with the approval of the competent authority.
