Sub: Proper Earthing and Hygiene at Department of Posts (DoP) Locations for Prevention of Router/Switch Failures – reg.

Sir,

I am directed to bring to your kind notice that a significant number of Routers/Switches deployed at various Department of Posts (DoP) locations are being reported faulty, resulting in disruption of network connectivity and requiring repeated repair/replacement through the RMA process.

It has been observed that improper earthing, unsuitable power supply conditions, dust accumulation and poor hygiene around the network equipment may contribute to premature failure of Routers/Switches.

In this regard, it is requested that necessary instructions may kindly be issued to all concerned DoP Circles to ensure the following:

Proper and effective earthing is provided for all Routers, Switches, racks and associated networking equipment.

Stable and appropriate power supply is ensured for all networking equipment, with suitable protection against voltage fluctuations/surges wherever required.

Networking racks, Routers, Switches and associated equipment are kept in a clean and dust-free environment.

In case of repeated failure of networking equipment at any particular location, the earthing and power supply conditions may be verified before installation of router/switch against faulty devices, so as to avoid recurrence of the fault.

It is requested that the above measures may kindly be communicated to all concerned DoP Circles for necessary compliance. This will help in reducing recurring hardware failures, minimizing network downtime, avoiding repeated RMA/repair-replacement activities and ensuring reliable operation of network connectivity at DoP locations.

It is also requested to reconcile the deployment of routers/switches at DoP locations which were supplied against one time replacement attached in Annexure-1.
