Subject: Proposal for opening Accounts of Post Offices with Nearby Banks to Minimize Risks in Cash Handling.
This is with reference to the letter No: AIASC CHG-111/2025 dtd 28.03.2025 received from General Secretary, at India Association of Supervisor Cadre, regarding proposal for mandatory Opening of Accounts for Post Offices with nearby banks to minimize risks in cash handling.
2. In contrast of the above, it is re-intended that the proposal for opening of bank accounts in Post Office for cash Handling is initiated by the Head of the Division and forwarded on the head of the FAD. These proposals are considered by the Head of PAS based on the turnover criteria prescribed in letter No. 23-1/2012-PO dated 28.02.2012, which stipulates a minimum annual turnover of $40 lakh.
3. Regarding the opening of bank accounts in nearby banks, it is informed that the procedure for opening such accounts for conducting Government business has already been detailed in this office’s letter No. PA/RK-111-33/2008/2/220-268 dated 28.04.2008.
4. In view of the above, Circles are requested to take appropriate action in accordance with the following:
(a) The turnover ceiling criteria prescribed in letter No. 23-1/2012-PO dated 28.02.2012 (copy enclosure); and
(b) The procedural guidelines for bank account opening as detailed in letter No. PA/RK-111-33/2008/2/220-268 dated 28.04.2008 (copy enclosure).
