Subject: Clarification regarding entitlement of reimbursement of Briefcase / Officer Bag / Ladies Purse to regular HSG-I officials in Pay Matrix Level-7 – reg.

Sir,

I am directed to refer to your letter No. AIASC CHQ-174/2025 dated 25.12.2025 on the above-mentioned subject.

The matter has been examined with reference to Directorate OM No. PP-38/1/2020-PAP dated 04.09.2024 and subsequent clarification dated 05.12.2024 regarding reimbursement of briefcase/Officer Bag/Ladies Purse.

As per the clarification issued vide letter dated 05.12.2024, the eligibility for reimbursement is restricted to:

(i) All Gazetted Officers of the Department of Posts; and

(ii) Officials equivalent to Inspector of Posts (erstwhile Grade Pay ₹4600/- / Level-7) who are having touring nature of duties.

The HSG-I officials, though placed in Level-7 are, neither having Gazetted status nor touring nature of duties. Mere placement in Level-7, equivalent to the Inspector (Posts) does not automatically confer eligibility for reimbursement of briefcase/office bag/ladies purse. The position stands clarified accordingly.

This issues with the approval of the competent authority.
