The notification will be live for registration from 31 January 2026 and candidates can submit online applications from 02 February 2026 onwards.

Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Online Engagement Schedule-I, January-2026

Applications are invited for vacant posts of Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevaks in different offices of the Department of Posts.

Service Conditions

• GDS are not regular employees; governed by GDS Rules 2020.
• Work duration: 4–5 hours/day; retirement age: 65 years.
• Must have another source of income.
• BPMs must arrange accommodation for Branch Post Office at own cost.

Job Profiles

Branch Postmaster (BPM)

• Postal operations, IPPB services, marketing, mail delivery.
• Responsible for smooth functioning of BO.
• Must reside in post village and provide accommodation.

Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)

• Sale of stamps, mail conveyance, IPPB transactions.
• Assist BPM, marketing, CSC services.
• Must reside within delivery jurisdiction.

Dak Sevak

• Sale of stamps, mail delivery, IPPB transactions.
• Work in RMS offices, handle mailbags.
• Assist Postmasters in departmental offices.
• Must reside within delivery jurisdiction.

Emoluments

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limits

• Minimum: 18 years
• Maximum: 40 years

Category	Relaxation
SC/ST	5 years
OBC	3 years
EWS	No relaxation
PwBD	10 years
PwBD + OBC	13 years
PwBD + SC/ST	15 years

Educational Qualification

• 10th pass with Mathematics and English.
• Knowledge of local language up to 10th standard.
• Special provisions for Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, and Sikkim.

Other Qualifications

• Knowledge of computers.
• Knowledge of cycling.
• Adequate means of livelihood.

Reservation

• SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwBD reservation as per rules.
• Certificates must be produced in prescribed format.
• EWS candidates get 10% reservation but no age relaxation.

Selection Criteria

• Merit list based on 10th marks (accuracy up to 4 decimals).
• Grades converted to marks using factor 9.5.
• Tie-breaking based on age, category, gender.
• Applications with incomplete/wrong data will be rejected.

Communication of Selection

• Shortlisted candidates informed via SMS/Email and portal.
• Must attend document verification within 15 days.
• Documents required: marksheet, ID proof, caste certificate, PwBD/EWS certificate, medical certificate, local language certificate (if applicable).
