Subject: Rationalization and utilization of server rooms at field offices - reg.
Sir/Madam,
It has been observed during visits of senior officers to various field locations including Post Offices that Server Room setups are still being maintained at some field locations.
In this regard, it is clarified that with the rollout of the Advanced Postal Technology (APT) platform, where APT is a browser-based application, there is no requirement of local server infrastructure at the level of Post Offices.
It has further been apprised by CEPT that even for the implementation of BCP solution (if required), any of the available Desktops can take care of the local database requirements. Further, other core applications such as Finacle and McCamish are also accessed through browser-based interfaces. Accordingly, the continuation of local server rooms at field offices is not required.
I am therefore directed to request you to take immediate necessary action for discontinuing server room space at Post Offices/Mail Offices and utilize that space for office use or other productive usage, as deemed appropriate.
This issues with the approval of competent authority.
