Download DEST Latest Version  – Practice Tool for Postal Department Examinations

The Department of Posts has made available the latest Data Entry Skill Test (DEST) Practice Tool to help candidates prepare for departmental examinations. The software is designed to simulate the actual DEST environment used in LDCEs for Postal Assistant (PA), Sorting Assistant (SA), Postman, and Mail Guard recruitment examinations.

Download and Installation

Candidates can download the appropriate DEST practice package and follow these steps:

  • Download the compressed RAR file.
  • Extract the contents using software such as WinRAR or 7-Zip.
  • Review the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) included with the package.
  • Launch the application and begin practicing in the simulated examination environment.

Purpose of the DEST Application

The offline application has been developed by CEPT to conduct the Data Entry Skill Test for candidates who qualify the written stages of departmental recruitment examinations. Since it operates in offline mode, internet connectivity is not required during the test. However, a printer should be available to print evaluated answer sheets when required.

Test Pattern

The DEST is conducted in English and has the following structure:

  • Test Duration: 15 minutes
  • Maximum Marks: 25
  • Typing must strictly follow the capitalization and formatting of the original text.
  • Candidates are required to enter a specified number of key depressions within an allowable variation range.

Qualifying Standards

Minimum qualifying marks are:

CategoryMinimum Marks
General15 (60%)
OBC/EWS15 (60%)
SC/ST12.5 (50%)
PwD12.5 (50%), where skill test exemption is not applicable

How the Test Works

  • Candidates enter basic details such as Roll Number, Name, and Community.
  • After reading the instructions, they start the test.
  • A countdown timer of 15 minutes begins.
  • The system displays the source paragraph sentence by sentence.
  • Candidates type each sentence and proceed using the “Next” button.
  • At the end of the paragraph, a review screen allows corrections before time expires.
  • Once the allotted time ends, the application automatically submits the response.

Evaluation Process

The software evaluates the typed content automatically by comparing it with the master paragraph.

Key features of the evaluation system include:

  • Marks are awarded for correctly matched words.
  • Minor formatting issues such as extra spaces, tabs, or line breaks do not result in penalties.
  • Incorrect or additional words do not attract negative marking.
  • Final scores are calculated based on the total number of correctly matched words.

Evaluated Answer Sheet

After completion, the application generates an evaluated PDF containing:

  • Candidate Name
  • Roll Number
  • Community
  • Test Date and Time
  • Marks Obtained
  • Percentage Score
  • Complete text entered by the candidate

The evaluated answer sheet must be signed by both the candidate and the supervisor and preserved for future reference.

Benefits of the Practice Tool

  • Familiarizes candidates with the actual DEST interface.
  • Helps improve typing speed and accuracy.
  • Simulates the real examination workflow.
  • Enables self-assessment through automated evaluation.
  • Provides a realistic environment for LDCE preparation
