Subject :- Filling up of vacancies of Postman/Mail Guard for 2026 vacancy year - reg.

Madam / Sir,
Based on the reports received from Circles, it has been observed that some of the vacancies of Postman, Mail Guard and MTS, as notified for the vacancy year 2025, remain unfilled following the completion of the examination/appointment process. Accordingly, the Competent Authority has decided that unfilled vacancies of Postman, Mail Guard and MTS of 2025 vacancy year, excluding those vacancies which are sub judice, shall be added to the vacancies of 2026 vacancy year to fill up the total vacancies as per the prevailing Recruitment Rules.

Further, in exercise of the power conferred by the provisions for 'Power to Relax' in the Department of Posts Postman and Mail Guard (Group 'C' post) Recruitment Rules, 2018, as amended from time to time, the Competent Authority has approved relaxation of one year in service eligibility conditions for appearing in examinations conducted by Department of Posts for recruitment to the posts of Postman / Mail Guard for the 2026 vacancy year. Accordingly, revised eligibility service for the 2026 vacancy year shall be as under:-

i. Multi Tasking Staff (MTS) in Level-1 of the Pay Matrix with two years of regular service as on the crucial date (01.01.2026) shall be eligible to appear in the Limited Departmental Competitive Examination (LDCE) for promotion to the posts of Postman / Mail Guard.

ii. Multi Tasking Staff (MTS) in Level-1 of the Pay Matrix with total regular service of four years, including service rendered as Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS), as on the crucial date (01.01.2026), shall be eligible to appear in the examination.

iii. Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) with four years of regular service as on the crucial date (01.01.2026) shall be eligible to appear in the Competitive Examination limited to GDS for recruitment to the posts of Postman / Mail Guard.

The above relaxation is a one-time measure applicable only for the vacancy year 2026 and shall not be treated as a precedent

Circles are requested to give wide publicity of the above relaxation among eligible MTS and GDS officials.
