Opposition to Proposed Reduction of PSS Group ‘B’ Posts in Cadre Restructuring

Subject: Proposal for restructuring Group ‘A’ & Group ‘B’ cadres

The Tamil Nadu Circle Association of Inspectors & Assistant Superintendents Posts has raised concerns about the restructuring proposal prepared by the Postal Officers (Non‑IPoS) Association.

The proposal suggests reducing PSS Group ‘B’ posts from 1091 to 946 (a cut of 145 posts) while increasing JTS Group ‘A’ posts.

The Association argues this reduction will seriously affect promotional avenues for Inspectors of Posts, especially through the PSS Group ‘B’ LDCE route.

They recall that PSS Group ‘B’ strength was earlier 866, later enhanced to 1091 by utilizing matching savings (ASP HQ/NSH posts). That increase benefited Inspectors seeking promotion.

Already, promotions from IP to ASP have been delayed due to abolition/reduction of ASP posts. Cutting 145 Group ‘B’ posts would further curtail career progression.

The Association requests the CHQ to:

• Examine the justification for reducing posts.
• Protect the current sanctioned strength (1091) of PSS Group ‘B’.
• Ensure restructuring does not unnecessarily curtail promotional opportunities.
