HYDERABAD: Union human resource development minister Prakash Javadekar said that the Centre was planning to reform the education system to provide quality education and asked people to send their suggestions to the government by September 15. He said that the Centre allots funds for the education sector on a par with the defence sector and wants to ensure that every rupee spent yields the desired results.
The minister interacted with students at Government Girls High School at Musheerabad along with deputy chief minister Kadiyam Srihari on Saturday. Javadekar said that 65% of the country's population is aged below 30 years and India's prosperity is linked to their education and employment opportunities. The government, he said, was committed to 100% implementation of the Right to Education Act. Javadekar also said that the focus was now on enhancing quantity, quality, equality, accountability, research and innovation in education. Srihari announced that the state government would establish a junior college at Musheerabad that will start functioning from the 2017-18 academic year. Apart from quality education, the government has been providing mid-day meals to students of classes IX and X, he said.
The deputy chief minister asked Javadekar to set up residential schools for girls under the 'Beti Padao Beti Bachao' scheme by involving all state governments. BJP state president and Musheerabad MLA K Laxman said that 14 government schools are being run in Musheerabad with quality infrastructure.
