Chennai: It is generally felt that the postal department bore the brunt of the new medias growth. There was talk that letter writing had gone down, thus pulling down the Department of Posts. However, all that has changed now with the department bouncing back, due to various initiatives taken in recent times.
Post offices have gone high-tech with better delivery options and easy access. The mechanism to deal with grievances has also improved as people have access to more avenues to register complaints.
With improved delivery service, the parcles will now be distributed from a nodal office in the area. The two post offices in Tambaram in Chennai suburban areas have been in isolation for long as people hardly used postal services and appeared to prefer the new media.
The complaints regarding late delivery of parcels and others can be resolved via Twitter now. To do so, one can tweet to @cpmgtamilnadu and @pmgchennai. The toll free number-1924 is now available to reach the department officials.
The post offices at Tambaram IAF Road and at Tambaram East in the locality have stepped up with regard to customer services.
Tambaram Sanatorium in Chennai suburb also has a head post office but now delivery shall be made from the Tambaram head office. The Postal Department is facing a hard time due to increased use of Internet, e-mails and social networking. However, the officials have to be appreciated for the work in keeping things going.
Recently, J Sadakathulla, Regional Director of Reserve Bank of India, felicitated seven officials and post offices for their services. He said the efforts being undertaken by the department will make more people use postal services with access being a lot easier.
