🚨 IMPORTANT ALERT – DIGITAL ARREST SCAM 🚨
All colleagues are requested to note:
- There is NO legal concept called “Digital Arrest” in India.
- Recently, a retired Chief Postmaster General (77 years) was cheated of ₹22 lakhs by fraudsters posing as officials from the Ministry of Communications, Police and CBI using phone calls and video calls.
🔴 How the scam works
- Call claiming FIR against your mobile number
- Threats of arrest, national security cases
- Fake police/CBI officers on Google Meet
- Instructions to stay isolated
- Demand to transfer money for “verification”
❌ IMPORTANT
- Police / CBI never investigate through WhatsApp, Signal, Google Meet
- No department asks for money transfer for enquiry
- FIRs are not handled over phone or video calls
🛑 WHATSAPP “GHOST PAIRING” SCAM
Do NOT click messages like:
“Hey, I found your photo”
“Is this you?”
Even if it appears from a known contact. Clicking such links can allow hackers to take control of your WhatsApp without OTP.
✅ If you receive such a call/message
1️⃣ Disconnect immediately
2️⃣ Inform family members
3️⃣ Call 1930 – Cyber Crime Helpline
4️⃣ Report at cybercrime.gov.in
