Increment on 1st January: DOPT Rules for Employees on Leave (CL, EL, CCL)
If my increment is due on January 1st, but I am on leave that day, will it be affected?
It depends on the type of leave, as per DOPT Order No. 16/13/88-Estt (Pay) dated 16.02.1989
Key Rule (DOPT Order: 16.02.1989): An increment due on January 1st is impacted by certain leaves taken on that day.
✅ Increment Granted from January 1st:
- If the employee is on Casual Leave (CL).
⏸️ Increment Deferred until Joining Date:
- If the employee is on: Earned Leave (EL), Commuted Leave, Half Pay Leave (HPL), Leave Not Due (LND), Maternity Leave, Child Care Leave (CCL), or Extra Ordinary Leave (EXOL).
Example: On leave from Dec 28 to Jan 6 → Increment effective from Jan 7.
Note: The official date for the next increment remains the same.
