Subject Implementation of Revised Volumetric Weight Formula in Parcel Booking System in APT 2.0

This is with reference to the instructions issued by the Department vide Mail Division Order No. B-8207-DI dated 16.02.2004, which prescribed the procedure for calculation of volumetric weight for parcels, along with certain mechanical details under Part II for specific categories of parcels.

• The matter has been reviewed. Based on the review and approval by the competent authority, it has been decided that the Department shall accept the industry standard formula of (Length × Breadth × Height) ÷ 5000 for the domestic parcels and the exemption clauses under Part II shall be withdrawn, so that volumetric weight reaches uniformity for all parcels irrespective of their dimensions.
• In this context, it is therefore requested to :

a) Enable the revised volumetric weight calculation in all parcel booking platforms and software systems
b) Ensure that the system automatically applies the new formula to all parcels and does not apply any exemptions
c) Verify the implementation in the APT 2.0 and confirm to Parcel Directorate once the changes have been successfully made and tested.

• Upon receipt of confirmation from CBT regarding successful implementation of these changes, Parcel Directorate will issue instructions to all circles and booking units for operationalization of the revised volumetric weight formula.
• This issues with the approval of the competent authority.
