Irregular Passport Delivery – Bengaluru HQ Region (07 April 2026)



The Office of the Postmaster General, Bengaluru (HQ) Region issued a circular addressing irregular delivery of passport articles at post office premises without physical address verification, violating departmental norms.

Key Findings:
  • Two passport articles were delivered at the post office counter based solely on Aadhaar verification.
  • Mandatory physical verification of the address was bypassed.
  • Supervisory lapses by the Postmaster and procedural failures by delivery staff were identified.
Instructions to All Divisions:
  • Strictly follow passport delivery guidelines with mandatory physical address verification.
  • Prohibit delivery of passports at post office premises under any circumstances.
  • Verify delivery manifests and maintain proper delivery records.
  • Strengthen supervisory checks to prevent irregularities.
  • Sensitize all staff handling sensitive and accountable articles.
  • Any deviation will be treated seriously, and accountability will be fixed on responsible officials.
