Step-by-Step Guide: Editing the Windows Hosts File

Hosts file configuration for IPPB Finacle

Step 1: Open Notepad as Administrator

1. Click the Start menu.
2. Search for 'Notepad'.
3. Right-click on the Notepad application in the search results.
4. Select 'Run as administrator'. This step is necessary because the hosts file is a protected system file.

Step 2: Open the Hosts File

1. In the Notepad window, go to File > Open.
2. Navigate to the folder: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\
3. In the file dialog, change the file type filter from "Text Documents (.txt)"* to "All Files (.)" to make the hosts file visible.
4. Select the file named hosts and open it.

Step 3: Comment Out Entries

• To disable an entry without deleting it, place a # (hash/pound symbol) at the beginning of its line. This comments it out and tells Windows to ignore it.

• Example of entries to comment out:

172.23.225.83 chsjw302 chsjw302.ippb.in
172.23.228.110 chslb001.ippb.in

• Example after commenting them out:

#172.23.225.83 chsjw302 chsjw302.ippb.in
#172.23.228.110 chslb001.ippb.in

Alternatively, you may remove the lines completely.

• Add this line to the end of the file:

172.31.228.110 cbslb001.ippb.in

 

Step 4: Save the File

1. After making the changes, save the file by pressing Ctrl+S or going to File > Save.
2. Close Notepad.
