This SOP explains how to install the Trend Micro Endpoint Protection (EPP) Agent on Department of Posts computers as part of the IT 2.0 Modernization Project. The agent provides protection against viruses, malware, ransomware, and other cyber threats.

• The purpose of this SOP is to provide step-by-step instructions for installing the Trend Micro Anti-Virus agent on DoP Windows computers and ensuring proper endpoint security.
• Who Should Install It?
• All authorized DoP Windows computers requiring endpoint protection.
• End users should follow the installation procedure.
• IT teams will provide support and installation packages.

Before Installation

1. System Requirements

• Ensure the computer has:
• RequirementMinimum SpecificationOperating System Windows 7, 8, 10 or 11
• Processor Minimum 1 GHz (32-bit) / 2 GHz (64-bit)
• RAM Minimum 2 GB
• Free Disk Space Minimum 3 GB

2. Network Requirements

Before installation:

✅ Connect only through the DoP MPLS Network

✅ Disconnect VPN or any alternate network

✅ Verify DNS resolution:

nslookup avepp.indiapost.gov.in

✅ Verify port connectivity:

telnet 10.212.86.200 4343

A blank screen indicates successful connectivity.

3. Windows Requirements

Ensure:

• Windows is activated.
• Latest Windows security patches are installed.
• Operating system is genuine (not pirated).
• Downloading the Agent
• Open the following URL in a web browser:

https://avepp.indiapost.gov.in:4343/officescan/console/html/cgi/cgiChkMasterPwd.exe

Download the appropriate:

32-bit package, or

64-bit package

based on your system configuration.

Installation Process

Step 1

• Download the installer package.

Step 2

• Verify the installer:
• Check file name and version.
• Ensure the file is digitally signed.

Step 3

• Run the installer.
• Double-click the downloaded file.
• If User Account Control (UAC) appears, proceed with installation.

Step 4

• Accept the License Agreement.

Step 5

• Click Install and wait until installation completes.

Step 6

• Restart the computer.

Important: The Trend Micro Agent automatically removes the existing Symantec Anti-Virus agent during installation.

Post-Installation Verification

After installation:

✅ Check for Trend Micro icon in the system tray.

✅ Open the agent console and verify:

• Agent status is Active.
• Latest pattern updates are available.

✅ Run a Quick Scan to verify functionality.

• Update Agent (GUP) Guidelines
• A suitable system should be selected as an Update Agent (GUP).
• Recommended Characteristics
• Always connected to MPLS/LAN.
• Located in the same subnet/VLAN as client systems.
• At least 2 GB free disk space.
• Remains powered on continuously.
• Low CPU and memory usage.

Reporting GUP Details

The Edge SPOC must raise a ticket in the DoP Support Portal and provide:

• Location Name
• Circle
• IP Subnet
• GUP Hostname
• GUP IP Address

Uninstallation Policy

• Trend Micro Agent can be removed only:
• Through centralized Apex One management, or
• Using an approved uninstallation package provided by the EPP O&M Team.

⚠ Prior approval from the IT Team is mandatory before uninstalling the agent.

Common Issues and Solutions

Issue 1: Installation Fails Due to Outdated Windows

Reason: Windows patches are missing.

Solution: Install the latest Windows updates and retry installation.

Issue 2: Windows Not Activated

Reason: Policy restrictions or inactive Windows.

Solution: Activate Windows and verify local/group policy settings.
