1. Purpose of the Proposal

• The Directorate of Postal Life Insurance is examining a proposal to revise the existing provisions for waiver of succession certificate in Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) death claims.
• The proposed changes aim to facilitate quicker settlement of death claims and improve service delivery.

2. Proposed Revision of Monetary Limit

• Existing Limit: ₹3,00,000 (Three Lakhs)
• Proposed Limit: ₹5,00,000 (Five Lakhs)
• Applicable to: PLI/RPLI death claims
• Cases Covered: Where no nominee exists or where the nominee has predeceased the insured.

3. Proposed Delegation of Powers

• Delegation of powers for waiver of succession certificate is proposed for Senior Postmasters.
• Postmasters of all Head Post Offices are also proposed to be delegated these powers.
• The exercise of these powers will remain subject to the conditions and documentary requirements prescribed in Letter No. 25-01/clf/2012-LI (Vol-I), dated 07.01.2019.

4. Comments and Inputs from Circles

• The Directorate has decided to obtain comments and inputs from all Circles before taking a final decision on the proposals.
• All Circles are required to furnish the requisite information to the Directorate by 10.08.2026 positively.
• The information will enable examination of the proposal and further necessary action.
