Subject: Holidays to be observed in Central Government Offices during the year 2027.

Sir/Madam,

  1. A copy of O.M. No. 12/2/2023-JCA dated 16.07.2026 from the Department of Personnel and Training, New Delhi, is forwarded herewith.
  2. Circles are requested to draw up a list of holidays to be observed in operative and administrative offices under their control during the calendar year 2027, as per instructions contained in the Office Memorandum referred to above, and circulate to all concerned.
  3. In addition to 14 compulsory holidays, 3 holidays shall be decided by the Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committee in the State capitals. After consultation, the final list applicable uniformly to all concerned will be notified. No change is permissible in regard to festivals and dates indicated.
  4. The list of Restricted Holidays appended to this O.M. is meant for Central Government Offices in Delhi/New Delhi. Coordination Committees at State capitals may draw up separate lists of RH keeping in view local occasions, but the 9 occasions left over after choosing the 3 variable holidays must also be included.
  5. All circles are requested to ensure updating of the list of holidays of their respective circle on the India Post website at the earliest under compliance to the Directorate.

Subject: Holidays to be observed in Central Government Offices during the year 2027 – reg.

It has been decided that the holidays specified in Annexure-I will be observed in all Administrative Offices of the Central Government located at Delhi/New Delhi during 2027. Each employee will also be allowed to avail any two holidays from the list of Restricted Holidays specified at Annexure-II.

  • Christmas Day
  • Dussehra (Vijaya Dashmi)
  • Diwali (Deepavali)

  • Guru Nanak’s Birthday
  • Idu’l Fitr
  • Idu’l Zuha
  • Mahavir Jayanti
  • Muharram
  • Prophet Mohammad’s Birthday (Id-e-Milad)

Optional Holidays (12 occasions to choose 3)

  • An additional day for Dussehra
  • Holi
  • Janamashtami (Vaishnav)
  • Ram Navami
  • Maha Shivratri
  • Ganesh Chaturthi / Vinayak Chaturthi
  • Makar Sankranti
  • Rath Yatra
  • Onam
  • Pongal
  • Sri Panchami / Basant Panchami
  • Vishu / Vaisakhi / Ugadi / Chaitra Sukladi / Cheti Chand / Gudi Padava / 1st Navratra / Naoraz / Chhath Puja / Karva Chauth

Clarifications:

  • No substitute holiday if a festival falls on a weekly off.
  • Restricted Holidays list for Delhi/New Delhi; State Coordination Committees may prepare separate lists.
  • Dates of Idu’l Fitr, Idu’l Zuha, Muharram, Id-e-Milad may change depending on moon sighting.
  • Diwali (Deepavali) falls on Friday, October 29, 2027; in some States, Naraka Chaturdasi may be observed instead.
  • Central Government organisations may observe up to 16 holidays including 3 national holidays.
  • Union Territory Administrations and Indian Missions abroad will decide holidays as per instructions.
