Subject: Clarification on Para 6(a) and Para 8 of Directorate Letter No. 17-01/2017-GDS dated 14.06.2023 regarding compassionate engagement of GDS.

The Department clarifies that:

• Para 8 of the GDS (Compassionate Engagement) Scheme, 2023 states no relaxation in upper age limit for compassionate engagement, except for the spouse of the deceased GDS.
• However, Para 6(a) eligibility criteria must also be considered.
• Age relaxations applicable under general GDS rules (SC/ST, OBC, PwD categories) shall also apply in compassionate engagement cases, notwithstanding Para 8.
• Interpretation must harmonize with GDS Conduct & Engagement Rules, 2020.
