No.Y-28/5/2025-PE-II dated 23/10/2026
The Department of Posts has issued an Office Memorandum dated 23.10.2026 revising the duties and responsibilities of the Secretary (Posts) and Director General (Postal Services) and rationalising the reporting architecture within the Department.

Under the revised arrangement, Secretary (Posts) will primarily handle policy formulation, legislation, regulatory matters, financial governance, parliamentary matters, cadre management, vigilance, strategic planning, and inter-ministerial coordination. Meanwhile, DG (Postal Services) will focus on operational management, mail and parcel services, financial and insurance operations, business development, customer service delivery, and implementation activities.

The new framework aims to establish clear accountability, reduce overlapping functions, streamline reporting channels, minimise administrative delays, and improve operational efficiency across the Department. It also aligns the internal administrative structure with the provisions of the Post Office Act, 2023.

The Office Memorandum supersedes the earlier order dated 27.03.2026 and comes into effect immediately with the approval of the Hon'ble Minister of Communications & DoNER
