Subject: Urgent Need to Discontinue “Bring Your Own Device” Policy and Provide Departmental Infrastructure for GDS – Reg.
Financial Burden on GDS:
- The "Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD) policy forces Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) to use personal smartphones/laptops for work.
- Many GDS employees cannot afford these devices, leading to financial strain.
- No reimbursement for device costs, data, repairs, or replacements.
Security Risks:
- Rising cases of phishing, OTP frauds, and cyberattacks (e.g., incidents in Yadgiri Division, Karnataka).
- No secure departmental infrastructure leads to data leaks & malware risks.
- Older GDS employees (50-65 years) are particularly vulnerable.
Operational Challenges:
- Inconsistent personal devices cause app malfunctions, crashes, and poor connectivity in rural areas.
- Delays in services & public dissatisfaction due to technical issues.
Work-Life Balance & Fairness:
- Mixing personal and official use disrupts privacy and work-life balance.
- No other postal staff (e.g., regular employees) are forced to use personal devices.
Demands:
- Immediate discontinuation of BYOD policy for GDS.
- Provide departmental devices with pre-installed essential apps.
- Ensure printers & reliable official internet (not personal hotspots).
- Exclude IPPB devices from BYOD policy.
- Cybersecurity training for GDS handling digital services.
