What is CEA?
An allowance given to Central Government employees for children’s education expenses. It is not an Advance, but a Reimbursement after expenditure. A 7th Pay Commission allowance.
Who is Eligible?
- MTS, Postman, PA/SA, IPO, SP
- Maximum for 2 children only.
- Children must be dependent on the employee.
Age & Class Limit
- No age limit. Children must be continuing education.
- Class: Nursery/LKG/UKG to 12th Class, Diploma first 2 years.
- CEA is applicable based on Academic Year only.
Allowance per Child

Application Time
Claim must be made after completion of each Academic Year. Usually between April-July. Last date based on Circle Circular.
Expenses Not Covered under CEA
- School Bus/Transport
- Private Tuition/Coaching
- Donations/Building Fund
Common Mistakes
- Claiming Hostel Subsidy without Hostel
- Claiming in Calendar Year instead of Academic Year
- Providing Transport Bills
- Both employees claiming when both are Govt employees
FINAL CLARITY: If In Hostel → CEA + Hostel Subsidy.
If Not In Hostel → Only CEA.
No Age Limit. Based on Academic Year only.
