Provision of Advance for Assistive Devices to Employees with Disabilities – Directorate Clarification 2026

The Department of Posts issued a communication (17.09.2026) regarding the provision of aids and assistive devices for employees with disabilities under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

• It refers to earlier instructions (31.10.2025) and highlights a new Office Memorandum from the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) dated 07.09.2026.
• The key clarification: Ministries/Departments may sanction advance up to 80% of the estimated cost of prescribed assistive devices, subject to a ceiling of ₹10 lakh in a block of three years, along with compliance to conditions in the earlier O.M. (22.09.2025).
• The directive emphasizes timely provision of reasonable accommodation for employees with disabilities and instructs dissemination of the order to all concerned officers.
• The communication is issued with approval of the competent authority and signed by Prabha Sharma, ADG (PE-I & RC).
